Fernando Cavenaghi started his career at River Plate in Argentina, scoring 55 goals in 88 appearances. He left for Spartak Moscow and played for various European clubs before returning to River Plate. In his second stint he scored 19 goals in 37 games. He then returned to Europe, playing for Villarreal, before returning again the following year, scoring 21 goals in 41 appearances.
In 2017 he retired and at his farewell game, he kissed the badge.
