Attilio Lombardo joined Crystal Palace from Juventus towards the end of his career. Palace were 10th in the table as it came to the turn of the year when he picked up an injury. By the time he came back from injury in the March, Palace were bottom of the table, but their lowly position didn’t put him off, with him kissing the shirt following a 3-1 defeat to Villa…
Palace were relegated at the end of the season but he stayed put as their player/manager… before leaving for Lazio the following summer.
Lombardo is now part of Manchester City’s coaching staff, joining up with former Sampdoria team-mates Roberto Mancini and David Platt.
“It is great that Attillio has come to join us,” said Mancini. “He was a top class player and he will bring lots of experience and a winning mentality to the group. I know he is excited at being at Manchester City and I know that he loves the English game from his time in London.”
